Way Distant Ancestors
[Published May 7, 2010]
A front-page article in today’s (May 7, 2010) Minneapolis' Star-Tribune newspaper announced, “There’s a little bit of Neanderthal in a lot of us.”   Using DNA analysis, scientists have determined that modern humans (Homo sapiens) mated with Neanderthals tens of thousands of years ago.  Because of this co-mingling eons-ago, somewhere between 1%-4% of our genes today are traceable to ancient cave men.  Research has determined that humans and Neanderthals interbred while both occupied the same region in the Middle East some 80,000 years ago.
